Dental services for the anxious

We offer a wide range of services to help your child overcome anxiety and fear surrounding their dental visits to help them enjoy good oral health. Dr. Francis and staff members will take extra time with anxious children to try and calm their fears and help them understand what to expect. However, when children are not old enough or mature enough to overcome or manage their anxiousness related to dental procedures, sedation may be recommended.

While sedation dentistry can be done in office, some children will require general anesthesia at a hospital to ensure the safest, most effective dental procedures.

Indications for sedation or hospital dentistry include:

  • Age and/or maturity of child

  • Trauma or rampant decay that requires multiple appointments to restore the child’s mouth

  • Medical reasons

  • Previous dental experience of child

When to sedate

The decision to render care under sedation, or under general anesthesia in a hospital, will be based on assessment of your child by Dr. Francis. To learn more about sedation dentistry, visit our sedation services page.
